Directions and Comments: Why should you use a "New" feed for your alpacas? This special creature, recently (in terms of history) domesticated brings with it specific challenges to meet their unique nutritional needs, especially when we want to maximize the production of fiber in the process of breeding and captivity. Dynamite Marketing, Inc. has been producing llama and alpaca feeds for over 15 years but only recently reformulated it to include improvements in ingredient and technology. So although this feed may be "new" the longevity and track record of our feeds has proven their value through years of breeding and animal health. What about the minerals included in our formula? Every animal needs levels of the macro minerals, and every feed includes them. Calcium, Phosphorus, Potassium, Zinc, Sulfur, Iron, Sodium and Copper are all accepted as norms for feeds, what Dynamite does differently is to use these minerals in pure amino acid chelated forms and then include trace minerals, Ester C, Yucca, yeasts, Folic Acid, Carotene, digestive agents and micro-trace minerals. When we put together a formulation for nation-wide use, we incorporate the best science available and over 45 years of feed experience to understand the critical interrelationship of the many minerals. We also include an ingredient that provides 45-50 minerals that are vegetable chelates to provide the broad spectrum of minerals that would be available in "nature-grown" grasses from virgin soils. When we feed an animal that is so recently introduced from a "wild" source their need for closest-to-nature feeds is more critical. Frankly, any grass or grass/alfalfa hay grown commercially in this country cannot contain the entire spectrum of mineral elements due to either chemical fertilization or concentrated harvesting practices where the manure and bodies of the animals using the feed are not recycled back into the growing area, as would happen in the wild natural habitit. We have mined the minerals from the soils through these sorts of open-loop agrarian practices for many years to produce commercial feeds, so careful, knowledgeable introduction of the proper balance of minerals in feeds is a key to optimum animal health. How should I feed this product? Average adult animals thrive on 2 cups of our pelleted product per day, which is approximately 2/3 lb. As optimum condition is achieved, this may possibly be reduced. Please ask your Dynamite Representative to comment on appropriate feeding directions to meet your specific needs. This foundation of nutrients is not a "complete" feed in that a good quality grass hay must also be fed to provide proper fiber for digestion. Introduce the Dynamite feed gradually to your animals, remembering that nutrients are only a part of a good health procedure for any creature. Good water is critical! When feeding a pelleted feed to camelids, put it in a small "line" in the feeder or use a narrow feeder that limits the amount of "gulping" that can occur. Spreading the feed out in a large feeding bowl works well, too. One tip is to put some sections of 2 x 4's in the feeder, or egg-sized stones. This will limit their intake, but their flexible lips will easily reach the feed. When feeding in groups, a recommendation is to allow at least 6' to 8' between animals to reduce competition and gulping of feed. Dynamite Alpaca Feed is a cold-pressed pellet which is soft and easy to chew. Size: 50# bags Check with your Dynamite Distributor for current pricing and availabilty. Click for PRICING information. |
